Best of Tamilee Webb Fitness DVDs Now Available

The fitness trainer that gained recognition for Buns of Steal has taken the best of her body of work, contemporized it, and has come up with a new hit.

By Lisa Ackerman
And I for one am psyched! As a group exercise instructor of fifteen years, I have to tell you that Tamilee Webb's Buns of Steel, Abs of Steel and Arms of Steel were among the very first fitness videos that I ever purchased. My fitness video and DVD collection has seen a lot of changes over the years, but Tamilee's videos have stayed on my shelves all of these years. I have never tired of them.

I warned my husband the first time we had a garage sale, "You can pull almost any of these videos to sell, but don't you dare touch the Tamilee ones!" I'm serious. I think they're fantastic workouts, and I'm thrilled that this new, younger generation of group ex instructors and fitness enthusiasts will be introduced to Tamilee's easy-going and enthusiastic style, excellent cuing, and eye for form that I have held in such high regard over the years.

I have met almost every fitness personality that I've wanted to over the years in my work for fitness presenters and conferences, and Tamilee is the one whom I am most excited to have interviewed. I hope this is the first of all kinds of news for me to report from the Tamilee Webb camp.

FitCommerce:

Tamilee, I, personally, was THRILLED, to see that you have re-released some of the workouts from your original Buns of Steel, Abs of Steel, and Arms of Steel videos in the form of Best of Tamilee DVDs. Those videos have been among my very favorites for many years. What made you decide to recompile and put these terrific workouts out there again?

Tamilee:

Almost every day I receive emails or phone calls requesting these videos on DVD because the person's tape is worn out or they don't have a VCR player anymore. So I decided to remake the workouts most requested which are Buns 3, Abs of Steel 1 & 2, Arms of Steel and Thighs of Steel, and I threw in a new Cardio routine using two small weighted balls. Most of these (original videos) were released in 1990-91.

FitCommerce:

Were these the first videos you released?

Tamilee:

Yes of the Buns series. However, my first video was with Dr. Art Ulene (Today Show doc) called Balanced Fitness which was a low impact cardio dance workout -- and it was endorsed by ACOG (MEDICIAL GROUP). That video won "Best Exercise Video" from IDEA back in 1987. Tamilee Webb DVD

FitCommerce:

Did you anticipate back then that these videos would become as hugely popular as they have?

Tamilee:

NO, I was hoping it would be my stepping-stone into the video business and would get my name a little recognition, but to think it would sell 14 million copies…no.

FitCommerce:

Was it the Buns of Steel, etc., videos that pushed you to video stardom?

Tamilee:

Yes, prior to the video series I'd had some recognition in the fitness industry but not with the consumers. It wasn't until Buns of Steel that my name and body became a household name. Because of BOS I was able to launch my own line of workout tapes and earn some status with the consumers.

FitCommerce:

You have stayed in incredible shape over the decades. Have your workouts changed dramatically over the years - and what is your workout philosophy today?

Tamilee:

OH, YEAH! Our bodies are always changing -- with each decade there are changes and it's harder to keep in the shape we once were. The key for me now in my forties (soon to be 50) is changing it up, and keeping my body guessing and challenging it. Seems I need to exercise smarter and eat less. My philosophy has changed, as well. It used to be "Fitness begins on the inside and works it's way outward."

Now it's "We have three bodies -- two physical, one non-physical. One physical body is (what I used to say) the internal body which is our internal organs and our outside body which you and everyone else sees; however, it is the non-physical body -- which is our mind -- that is the most powerful and the one that often needs to be changed. Your thoughts are your reality -- change your body through thoughts, and you'll change your physical body." In other words, what you look like is how you see yourself; if you don't like what you see, change your thought . . . change your body!

FitCommerce:

What are your plans for the upcoming year? Anything new on the horizon for us?

Tamilee:

Hummm, yes I'm considering bringing back the days of the aerobic studio that no longer exists except for in large health clubs. I think women want the basics of the dance studio without all the other stuff they don't use. However I have plans to make what's old NEW and exciting, which will fit into the technology world we have become. What I'll produce next depends on my fans, they tell me what they'd like more of; and after all, I'm there for them when it comes to DVDs.

I have called to stop these awful videos from coming and the customer care center will not give me an RMA# like they are suppose to. How rude and thoughtless they are... Thanks but no thanks.
