Health Benefits of Coffee Keep on Coming In

Studies out of the U.S., Germany and China espouse coffee's benefits in lowering depression, prostate cancer, stroke, risk of Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer's disease, heart disease, diabetes and some types of cancer. Regular coffee drinkers can now relax and enjoy their habit.

Coffee is officially venerated as a natural nutrient and not a demon toxic substance. Its regular consumption is now associated with a lower risk of depression, of lethal prostate cancer, and lower risk of stroke. Research also shows possible protective effects against Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease, morbid heart disease, diabetes and some types of cancer.

A lower risk of 20% -30% of developing type 2 diabetes is linked to moderate consumption of coffee, says a report in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.

Coffee is a natural plant-based bean that contains literally a thousand different substances, most of which actually prevent dreaded diseases.
These results are corroborated by the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition (EPIC) Germany study which found that drinking more than four cups of coffee a day - caffeinated and decaffeinated - compared with less than one cup was not linked to a higher risk of developing a chronic disease. A third study out of China also found that the Caffeic acid and Chlorogenic acid found in coffee to reduce type 2 diabetes risk.

Coffee is a plant-based drink that contains literally a thousand different substances. It's difficult to isolate just which cause favorable effects, and others that have some negative effects. The most debated of these is caffeine.

Caffeine is highly noted as a stimulant. It works by targeting adenosine receptors in the brain. Adenosine is a brain chemical that dampens brain activity. Caffeine attaches to the adenosine receptors and thus prevents the suppressant quality of Adenosine from doing so. Caffeine sets off a chain of events that affects the activity of dopamine, another important brain chemical, and the areas of the brain involved in arousal, pleasure, and thinking.

It may be the effects of caffeine that account for coffee drinkers having less instances of suicide and a reduction of depression among women.
Explanations for the association between coffee consumption and lower rates of heart disease and diabetes often point to chlorogenic acid (CGA) and other obscure antioxidant substances as the responsible parties.

Antioxidants are substances that sop up reactive molecules before they have a chance to harm sensitive tissue like the lining of blood vessels. Some experiments have shown that chlorogenic acid may also inhibit absorption of glucose in the digestive system and even out insulin levels.

All of the favorable studies and all of the seemingly healthful ingredients in coffee are good news for coffee drinkers. They can now relax and enjoy their habit.
