(02/28/08) Nine of the industry’s finest tell why they love their new fitness finds

February 28, 2008 --
"My favorite new discovery is fitwisetraining.com and onlinehealthclub.com because they simplify life for those of us in the fitness industry. One gives us the portable trainer and routines we need when we travel. The second manages everything we need to do in fitness from an online perspective from managing appointments to reminding our clients to billing and maintaining calendars and schedules.
For fitness product, I love the new myotherapy release ball from Power Systems that has nodules all over it to get deep into fascia for a powerful massage. The ball is softer, so it's pleasant myofascial release. I just did a DVD to show its versatility (www.findLawrence.com)."

"The TRX Suspension Trainer Professional has been a great tool for my outdoor boot camps. I can secure the TRX around a basketball frame and set up stations for push ups, pull ups, chest flies and abdominal exercises. What I love is that the TRX can instantly be adapted to all abilities simply by adjusting the client's stance or positioning to increase or decrease resistance. The TRX takes seconds to set up and take down and fits easily in a gym bag. It's a wonderful tool when you are outdoors and equipment is limited. It's affordable, versatile, and can be used for strength, balance, core and flexibility. Of course, the TRX can also be used indoors on any secure attachment such as a door or pull up bar. A helpful DVD and guide also come with purchase. For more information or to purchase, go to www.PerformBetter.com."

"I am loving the Myo-Ball; it's a great tool for core training, balance training, and myofascial release. I have designed an entire group fitness program around the Myo-Ball and its longer cousin, the foam roller. Participants in my ROLLogic(c) classes have commented that they feel longer, stronger and even like they have a whole new body after the 45 to 60 minute class.
Myo-Balls can be purchased at www.power-systems.com. I prefer the 6-inch diameter. For more information on ROLLogic, go to www.jackiecamborde.com."

"My favorite fitness product of the past few years has to be the Jade Yoga Harmony mat. Of all the yoga mats I have ever tried, this is the BEST. It is non-slip, made from natural rubber (a renewable resource), contains no PVC (most other mats do), unrolls flat every time, and provides a "just-right" amount of cushion for all poses. The mats come in great colors, two lengths, and three different thicknesses.
These mats really perform. I once accidentally spilled an entire glass of liquid on one of them and used it immediately after, with NO SLIPPAGE. Amazing!
The mats can be found at www.jadeyoga.com."

"My favorite new product is the BOSU® Ballast Ball. I have always loved adding stability ball training to my personal workouts and classes. The innovative Ballast Ball not only solves all of my storage issues and challenges for integrating into classes, but its unique properties have opened up an entire new realm of possibilities. The load in the ball provides both auditory and visual feedback, as well as unique core challenges. For more information, visit www.bosupro.com."

"I really hope this doesn't smell too much like self-promotion as I designed this product in conjunction with Vortex, but it IS certainly my favorite new product. It's called the Grasso Nimbus. No website has any information on it just yet, but it is set to be unveiled at a conference in Denver next month.
What makes it cool and unique is that it is a virtual indoor playground. It's a four-sided piece of equipment that has everything from Monkey Bars, Cargo-Climbing Net, Movable Platforms and even an Unstable Two-Footed Track.
It's perfect for kids and ideas for the whole youth fitness realm. Kids are unfit - everyone knows that. But we need to get back to the basics of human movement and fun in order to get kids back in shape and on the path to a fit adulthood. Most of the "youth-based" equipment out there is very un-functional and completely "un-fun." That's why I'm really excited about what we have done with Vortex. It's great for kids because it's fun and also EXACTLY what they need physically."

June Kahn's favorite: the TYE4 harness-type design.

"Getting clients to feel and understand the "connection" between their core and limbs is probably the single most important aspect of Core Training. It is the most common obstacle for most trainers when trying get their clie
nts to feel the subtle movements that occur when the body moves as an integrated unit.
To find a product that does all this for you, while guiding your body to do it on its own, is virtually non existent, until now. The Physical Mind Institute in New York City has released the TYE 4 solely to address this issue. Created by Joan Breibart, President of the Institute, the TYE4 is a harness-type device that fits snugly over the upper torso and upper postural muscles and places you in correct alignment by "connecting" the arms and legs via resistance cords attached to the device.
The cords have loops for the hands and feet to train the body literally from the inside out because the origin of the resistance/assistance is at the center of the body. The device is a great feedback tool for alignment, connection and lift. The overall connection instills a natural feeling of correct, efficient posture with movement. The result: improved quality of movement and a greater understanding of the process. I highly recommend it. For information, visit: www.themethodpilates.com or call (800) 505-1990. "

"The best way to retain personal training clients is to deliver AMAZING results in the first 30 days of their program. That's why I think every personal trainer and club should have the www.TheCarbRotationDiet.com in their training library.
The program, created by Registered Dietitian Jayson Hunter, is designed to help clients lose up to 15 pounds in just 30 days. It's a safe and healthy way of delivering amazing results in that first 30 days to retain clients. And we all know it's more profitable to KEEP clients than to find new ones. "

"My favorite new product is the Polar RS800 GPS heart rate monitor that I just used for climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro. The reason why I liked using it was that it acted as a great training and motivational tool during my ascent up to Uhuru Peak on Mt Kilimanjaro. For example, when I thought I might be moving too quickly upward, I would check my heart rate and focus on my breathing and watch my heart rate go from say 146 bpm to less than 130 bpm - where I wanted to be. I also summated at 134 bpm. Finally, I noticed a big difference between using trekking poles and not using them; the first five days I did not use them and at times my heart rate was in the 150-160 zone - once I started using them (four legs are better than 2 legs!!!), my heart rate dropped 15-20 beats per minute."
