Short Definition:
A 50+ year control group to measure heart disease

Definition:
An ongoing study originally started in 1948 by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute and Boston University to correlate diet and lifestyle to cardiovascular disease. The original control sample consists of 5,209 men and women between the ages of 30 and 62 from the town of Framingham, Massachusetts, but has since grown to second and third generation groups. 50-year-old trends between early lifestyle habits and cardiovascular disease can be readily spotted.
