Short Definition:
  Low Density Lipoprotein: A form of cholesterol.

Definition:
A sub-component of cholesterol, often referred to as bad cholesterol. High LDL levels in the human body is considered a risk factor for heart disease.

This lipoprotein carries cholesterol from the liver to body tissues. LDL contains more fat than protein. Oxidized LDL on the artery walls appear to play an important role in the development of atherosclerosis.

People should have their LDL checked by their physician. High levels of LDL should be brought under control. It can be controlled through exercise and diet, through alternative remedies, and in extreme cases, through prescription medications such as statin drugs.
