Stress The Missing Piece to the Weight Loss Puzzle

(01/30/04) We're getting wiser to how certain hormones like insulin, cortisol, testosterone, and estrogen affect health, now Dr. Len Lopez details how stress, diet and exercise combine to trigger hormones to burn or store fat.

January 30, 2004 Addison, TX -- Certain hormones are key to maintaining proper weight and good health. The insulin and glycemic scale approach to weight loss has gained prominence with the Zone Diet, Perricone and to a lesser degree with Atkins. Male body builders realize the benefits of testosterone and the drop in estrogen in women triggers innumerable body changes. However, there is a third factor that we experience almost on a daily basis that may be affecting our weight control.
" …intense focus on diet and exercise has overlooked the role stress plays in interfering with weight loss goals. In fact, seventy-five percent of visits to the doctor are stress related."
Dr. Len Lopez has researched the link between stress and hormones and the link between hormones and diet. He believes it is important to "treat the cause, not the symptom" and teaches his patients which hormones work for them, which work against them and how to regulate them, thereby increasing their success for any weight loss program and improving their overall health.

Stress, Diet And Exercise Work Together To Burn Or Store Fat

Dr. Lopez recognizes that intense focus on diet and exercise has overlooked the role stress plays in interfering with weight loss goals. In fact, seventy-five percent of visits to the doctor are stress related.

Concerned that some of the crucial pieces of the weight loss puzzle are not being properly acknowledged, he wrote a book, To Burn or Not To Burn, FAT is the Question , to highlight these missing pieces. His book, which is being released this month, chronicles how stress, diet and exercise work together to burn or store fat. Readers learn that the type of diet and intensity of their workouts, along with the level of stress in their lives, collectively play a part in triggering their hormones to burn or store fat.

Millions of people who diet and exercise are not losing weight. The book explains:

  • Which hormones burn fat and which ones store fat
  • How to trigger the right hormones to work for you
  • The role stress, diet and exercise play in burning fat
"I help patients understand the role stress plays in affecting overall weight loss goals," said Dr. Lopez. "It is important that people realize they have a tremendous amount of control over the level of stress in their lives, the type of foods they eat and the level of exercise they get."
